Second Local Meeting in Ostrów Wielkopolski / Poland

The 4th and 5th of November marked the occurrence of our second Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) in Poland. Ostrów Wielkopolski, situated approximately 100km northeast of the historic city of Wroclaw (formerly known as Breslau), provided the backdrop for our discussions. The region is renowned for its agricultural landscape and carp farming.

Our host, Anna, graciously welcomed us on Saturday at the school in Ostrów Wielkopolski, where she serves as an assistant teacher. Unfortunately, our partners from the Netherlands could only join us virtually this time. Despite this, the rest of the team eagerly anticipated two days of collaborative work in Poland.

During the meeting, we reaffirmed the target groups that each partner had selected for themselves. Participants shared progress updates on the drafts for the micro-courses, with each participating organization tasked with creating three courses. Extensive discussions ensued regarding the presentation format and the planned duration of the courses.

In the afternoon, we embarked on a visit to the Palace Antoniński Pałace, a Hunting Palace with a rich history. Nestled amidst extensive woodlands and situated not far from a crossroads leading to Wroclaw and Silesia, this small wooden castle served as an exceptional hotel, restaurant, and home to a Chopin museum. The palace holds a special place in Poland’s cultural heritage, as it was a location where the country’s most renowned composer, Chopin, often played the piano for local residents.

The origins of this charming palace trace back to the decision of Prince Anton Heinrich Radziwill of the Traby family, the owner of the surrounding lands. In the midst of woodlands, he commissioned the construction of a summer residence at a pivotal junction in the roads. The result, designed by the Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel, was an exquisite hunting lodge that stands as a testament to architectural excellence.

During the late afternoon, we explored the recently renovated Muzeum w Lewkowie. A passionate museum guide regaled us with numerous stories, both significant and intimate, spanning the history of Poland and, more specifically, the Woiwodschaft Großpolen, to which Ostrów Wielkopolski belongs. Among the fascinating exhibits was a bridal chair, a charming relic from the past. This unique piece allowed the bride and groom to draw a bit closer to each other during discussions about wedding arrangements, providing a private space away from the formal negotiations, while maintaining a respectful distance.
